01

Use one visible box number

Write a large unique number on the top and at least two sides. Avoid numbering by room alone: room destinations can change, while a unique number should never change.

02

Record enough detail—not every object

A useful entry is ‘Kitchen — everyday glasses, mugs, coffee maker’ rather than ‘kitchen things’ or a list of 40 objects. Mention anything fragile, valuable, or needed during the first week.

03

Add a destination and priority

Use the room name that exists in the new home. Mark boxes as open first, normal, or storage. This lets helpers place boxes correctly without opening them.

04

Update status at four moments

Planned, packed, moved, and unpacked is enough. Update the inventory as boxes enter the vehicle and again when they reach the destination; a missing number is visible immediately.

05

Keep sensitive information off the label

Do not write ‘jewelry,’ ‘financial records,’ or detailed valuables on the outside. Use a neutral description and keep truly important items with you.
